What is a hate-speech?
Colloquially, hate speech means words, statements or publications which express extremely negative, hateful feelings and views towards certain individuals or groups. Such statements are most often associated with racism, xenophobia, and hatred of sexual minorities. The concept of hate speech was coined to address the emerging need to define limitations on freedom of expression in a world of multinational, multicultural and multi-denominational societies, in which some people’s freedom of expression may violate the dignity, freedom of thought, conscience and religion of others, or even infringe the ban on discrimination. The need arose to formulate a term to describe a disturbing social phenomenon which primarily affects the lives of minority groups in the community.
